3G/HSDPA, 3G (Third Generation) High-Speed Downlink Packet Access

PRODUCTS > Internet Access

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is a 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications protocol in the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family, which allows networks based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity.

Current HSDPA deployments support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.4 Mbit/s. Further speed increases are planned for the near future.

The networks are then to be upgraded to Evolved HSPA, which provides speeds of 42 Mbit/s downlink in its first release.

A technology called HSDPA, for high-speed downlink packet access, delivers speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps presently, faster than both Telkom’s DSL 1024 and iBurst’s 1 Mbps offerings.

3G HSDPA allows users to browse Web pages faster on their cell phones than broadband users can do today on their personal computers.

Such speeds make video streaming and the downloading of MP3 music files easier on mobile phones.

3G HSDPA offers an uplink speed of 128 kbps; double the current 3G standard.

This technology should be capable of reaching speeds of more than 8 to 10 mbps eventually.

Dragan Grafix has built the following client website capable of utilizing this new technology: comprogear.com best egg white protein powder

The new PCMCIA data cards will be able to connect using HSDPA, 3G, EDGE or GPRS, a significant advantage over the previous 3G/GPRS cards while the new upgraded Vodacom network can handle speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, the current HSDPA data cards have an upper limit of 1.8 Mbps.

The strategic alliance with Vodafone has enabled Vodacom to offer customers access to the 3G HSDPA service first and exclusive use of the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G Broadband card. The pricing for 3G HSDPA will initially be the same as the current 3G data rates, but Vodacom expects pricing to drop in future.

3G with HSDPA is a global 3G technology upgrade that was made to the Vodacom network in April 2006.

This enhancement delivers superior speed, increased capacity and efficiency improvements.

Business Benefits

Fast: Data rates up to five times faster than 3G, fast Internet browsing and file downloads. Under normal conditions customers can expect speeds between 400kb/s and 800kb/s with peaks of 1.4Mb/s.

On The Move / Mobile: Mobile broadband access when roaming. Convenience of standardised equipment and data tariffs

Instant: Broadband connectivity, where and when you need it

Flexible: With the 3G HSDPA card you can seamlessly connect to Vodacom's HSDPA, 3G, EDGE and/or GPRS networks

Wide Area Coverage: Mobile broadband is a natural evolution of the existing 3G network and coverage is throughout the 3G coverage area. At launch, more than 1500 base stations were HSDPA enabled

Seamless: Mobile broadband delivers high speed mobile data access through the Vodafone 3G broadband Mobile Connect Card to provide customers with a broadband experience

International Access: The card can be used on any of the Vodafone 3G broadband networks worldwide where roaming agreements are in place. Currently, roaming is available in Germany, Austria and Portugal. Current 3G data roaming rates apply

Cost-effectiveness: You can stay connected for as long as you like because you will only pay for the amount of data you download - not for the amount of time you spend online

Simplicity And Convenience: 3G HSDPA provides the customer with secure remote access to his/her company network, making life much easier for the IT Manager to easily configure this mobile solution into the existing corporate security environment

A One Stop Mobile Solution: It allows you access to the Internet, your company network and e-mail at broadband speed
